February 2021 – Chairman’s update

We hope all is well with you and that you are facing the future with confidence.  On behalf of the whole committee of the Club we wish you a Happy New Year.

The current position of the Club is the same as many others as we face this constantly changing national crisis. We are all affected in different ways by the Covid 19 pandemic.  As a committee we are still in touch with each other and constantly considering the way forward. Our anxiety has been to avoid over optimistic news of our plans and minimize any uncertainty.

Activities that we have considered including Training and Competitions will proceed as and when we can arrange them. It is pleasing that we have volunteers to fill the posts of Field Trial Secretary for both Spaniels and Retrievers reflecting the continued enthusiasm within our membership.

It is appreciated that there will be interest from new members when we are able to arrange Training and we would simply encourage those interested to keep an eye on the website when lockdown restrictions are eased.

The position and advice of the Kennel Club will be kept under review.

The AGM usually held in April will need to be delayed until we are sure we can proceed safely.

If competitions and particularly Field Trials are allowed the guidelines in place may mean changes to how these events are run. We will keep under review what happens on a national and local level as we are dependent on the support of the Shooting community as a whole including our supporting Landowners and Shoot managers.

Fortunately although the absence of events and training sessions last year has affected the income of the Club we remain on a solid financial footing so look forward to the end of restrictions when we should be able to return swiftly to normal levels of activity.

One of our prime concerns would be to swiftly return to a full program of training in the early summer.  There is a huge pent up demand for this training from people who are relatively new to the sport. We hope that we will soon be able to satisfy that demand and show how enjoyable and rewarding this can be. Rest assured your committee are well prepared and pulling on their leads to get going with fresh activities just as soon as the restrictions allow.
